Galaan Merga studied Biophysics at Humboldt University of Berlin, where he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He obtained his PhD in 2025 at the Institute of Biology in the research group of Prof. Franz Bartl, focusing on biophysical chemistry. His doctoral research investigated the photocycle of bacterial phytochromes Agp1 and Agp2 using FTIR spectroscopy.
At PicoQuant, his work centers on analyzing and contextualizing peer-reviewed research across materials science and life science applications, with a focus on time-resolved optical spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy, and photon counting techniques. With a strong background in biophysics and optical spectroscopy, he translates complex experimental approaches into clear, application-relevant scientific content.
