From October 6 to 8, 2026, PicoQuant welcomed 75 researchers from 15 countries to Berlin for the 31st International Workshop on Single Molecule Spectroscopy and Super-resolution Microscopy. Over three days, participants explored the latest scientific developments, shared ideas, and connected across disciplines.
With 31 scientific talks, including presentations by eight invited speakers, and 23 posters, the workshop showcased a remarkable diversity of research spanning biology, chemistry, physics, materials science, and nanotechnology. Lively discussions during the sessions, poster presentations, and social events highlighted the value of bringing different scientific perspectives together.
A special highlight was the Best Student Talk Award, with 17 young researchers competing for the prize. Congratulations to Eva Münzel (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany) for her talk on Brownian computation and Ayush Kumar Ganguli (Vilnius University, Lithuania) for his presentation on high-throughput single-molecule DNA assays.
Throughout the workshop, participants also shared the big scientific questions they hope single-molecule methods will help answer, from understanding protein function and molecular dynamics to exploring the origins of life. These questions captured the spirit of the event: scientific curiosity, open exchange, and new perspectives across disciplines.
