PicoQuant celebrates 30th Single Molecule Workshop in Berlin
More than 250 researchers from across the globe came together to share insights and explore emerging trends
“The 30th workshop was an inspiring platform – shaped by exceptional expertise, lively exchange, and young talent. We thank all participants; together we are writing the next chapters in single molecule research.”
Rainer Erdmann, CEO of PicoQuant
PicoQuant successfully concluded the 30th International Workshop on Single Molecule Spectroscopy and Super-Resolution Microscopy in Berlin. From September 23–26, 2025, a record number of 250 participants joined to celebrate three decades of global scientific exchange.
The anniversary edition featured an outstanding program with Nobel Laureates Stefan W. Hell (Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences) and W.E. Moerner (Stanford University) among the speakers. Leading researchers shared the latest advances in FLIM, smFRET, FCS/FLCS, Single Molecule Localization Microscopy, as well as new approaches in machine learning and open-source analysis.
Over four days, participants enjoyed inspiring keynotes, invited talks, contributed presentations, and poster sessions. Networking events – including a festive anniversary dinner – created the perfect setting for scientific exchange and collaboration.
Continuing a long-standing tradition, the workshop honored young researchers through the Best Student Talk Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the field. The award went to Marie Reischke, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Rick Seifert, The Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg, and Philipp Gebauer, University of Konstanz.
Since its launch in 1995, the workshop has grown into one of the world’s leading interdisciplinary events for single molecule research, bringing together experts from physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science.
