Sales Team
Uwe Ortmann
Uwe studied physics at the University of Kiel, where he graduated in 1993. He then worked as product manager and as development engineer in several research and development companies before he joined PicoQuant in 1998 and became Head of Sales. His focus lies on time-resolved studies, spectrometer design, laser scanning microscopy, and single molecule detection.
Mario Gerecke
Mario studied chemistry at the Humboldt-University Berlin where he also received his PhD. He worked on broadband fs fluorescence spectroscopy and analyzed water reorientation dynamics near e.g. DNA and peptides. In 2017 he joined the sales team of PicoQuant focusing on lasers and light sources.
Miriam Oliva
Miriam studied physics at the Technical University of Berlin with a focus on applied physics. Between 2017 and 2022 she worked on her master and PhD thesis at the Paul-Drude-Institut, Berlin, on photoluminescence spectroscopy and the fabrication of III-V semiconducting nanostructures. Miriam joined PicoQuant in January 2023, focusing on lasers and photon counting.
Frederik Schröder
Frederik studied Physics at Freie Universität Berlin and at Technische Universität Berlin. He carried out his Ph.D. at Technical University of Denmark in the field of Quantum- and Nanophotonics, studying excitonic effects in 2D Materials and their interaction with novel dielectric nanocavities. Joining PicoQuant in 2025, Frederik is focussing on Lasers and Photon Counting Electronics.
Mathias Bayer
Mathias obtained his PhD at the ETH Zürich, where he employed fluorescence correlation spectroscopy to investigate topics in cell biology. He contributes his experience in biophysical method development and their application to cell biology to the PicoQuant sales team since April 2017.
Isabel Groß
Isabel studied Biology at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart and specialized in Neurobiology at the Freie Universität Berlin. For her Master’s thesis she worked on interactions of synaptic cell adhesion molecules at the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin. She received a FAZIT scholarship for her PhD on analysis of protein-lipid interactions during neuronal differentiation at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg. Isabel contributes her experience on live cell imaging and high-resolution microscopy to the PicoQuant sales team since October 2021.
Kevin Kramm
Kevin studied biotechnology at the TU Braunschweig. He obtained his PhD in biochemistry at the University of Regensburg in 2020, investigating protein-DNA interactions at the single-molecule level. He continued as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Regensburg, working on DNA-PAINT super-resolution imaging using DNA origami. Kevin contributes his experience in biophysical single-molecule methods and applications to the PicoQuant sales team since February 2024.
Valentin Reiter-Scherer
Valentin obtained his PhD in experimental physics at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin investigating protein-ligand interactions on the single molecule level using atomic force microscopy and force spectroscopy. He continued as postdoctoral researcher at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and at the Freie Universität Berlin focussing on quantitative nano-mechanical characterization of bio-nano-interfaces. He joined the PicoQuant sales team in July 2022 contributing his experience in biophysical single molecule methods and applications.
Fabian Jolmes
Fabian studied biology at the University of Würzburg. He recieved an IMPRS-IDI PhD-fellowship at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He was focusing on quantification of protein – protein and protein – RNA interactions with FLIM-FRET and anisotropy measurements using upgraded LSMs. He joined PicoQuant in Spring 2016, specializing for sales and support of the LSM upgrade Kit.

Henry Halim
Henry studied Chemistry at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Tokyo. In 2021, he completed his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research on the topic of semiconductor nanoplatelets for fluorescence imaging and energy transfer (FRET, TTA-UC). He continued as a postdoctoral researcher at the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin for Materials and Energy before joining PicoQuant in 2024. His focus lies in time-resolved spectrometers and microscopes for material characterization.
Torsten Langer
Torsten studied physics at the TU Braunschweig. In 2014, he received his PhD for his work on time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy on nitride semiconductors and continued his research as a postdoc afterwards. He joined PicoQuant in 2016 focussing on time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) and single photon detectors.
