PicoQuant Roadshow in China

PicoQuant Roadshow in China

Suzhou, Hong Kong and Beijing

May 09 - 19, 2011

Image PicoQuant Roadshow in China 2011

Summary

The major aim of this roadshow was to meet scientists interested in new time-resolved microscopic techniques like FLIM, FRET, FCS and single molecule spectroscopy. These advanced spectroscopic applications are based on the method of Time-Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) and enable new and exciting insights into molecular dynamics and interactions of single molecules as well as in living cells. They also evolve to become standard tools in fundamental biological and biomedical research, as they allow the study of function, structure and interaction of individual single biomolecules. The applications of these techniques are ranging from chemical analysis to biophysics, biological and biomedical research, medical diagnostics and material research.

During the show we presented our time-resolved confocal microscope systems (MicroTime 200 and the FLIM & FCS upgrade kit for laser scanning microscopes) to show and discuss their potentials for scientific research using the above mentioned applications. We therefore organized several one-day "mini-symposia" for interested scientists from universities or industry in Beijing, Suzhou and Hong Kong. Besides oral presentations about the methods, their applications, necessary instrumentation and scientific impact, we also offered hands-on demonstration on our systems in Beijing (MicroTime 200) and Hong Kong (LSM Upgrade Kit).

Mini-Symposium in Suzhou

Enter a New Dimension - State of the Art Time-resolved Microscopy and its Application, May 09, 2011

Aims and purpose

Prior to the CSH Asia meeting we organized a mini-symposium for scientists interested in state-of-the-art time resolved microscopy (FLIM, FRET, FCS and single molecule spectroscopy), its applications and instrumentation. Please note that at this site no system demonstration is available.

Speakers

  • Yan-Wen Tan (Department of Physics and State Key Laboratory of Surface Physics, Fudan University)
  • Xiaoyong Wang (Nanjing University)
  • Hongzhen Lin (Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics (SINANO), Chinese Academy of Sciences)
  • Volker Buschmann (PicoQuant GmbH, Germany)

Mini-Symposium in Hong Kong

Course on "FLIM, FRET, FCS and their Applications in the Life Sciences", May 16, 2011

Aims and purpose

The course in Hong Kong was targeting mainly on microscope users with a background in life sciences. During the course we introduced biological applications of FLIM, FLIM-FRET and FCS e.g. in cellular studies and organized a system demo at the Laser Scanning Microscope Leica SP5 SMD upgraded with PicoQuant equipment towards these techniques.

Speakers

  • Po-Yen Lin (Institute of Biophotonics, National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan)
  • Leica Microsystems
  • Volker Buschmann (PicoQuant GmbH, Germany)

Mini-Symposium in Beijng

Course on "Time-resolved Single Molecule Microscopy", May 18, 2011

Co-Organizer: Prof. Andong Xia (Institute of Chemistry, CAS)

Aims and purpose

The course in Beijing was mainly dedicated to scientists interested in time-resolved single molecule spectroscopy and research. We introduced the methodology and instrumentation as well as some unique applications that are only possible with the MicroTime 200 (e.g. combination of this time-resolved microscope with an AFM). During the hands-on at the MicroTime 200 measurements of the fluorescence lifetime, FCS, antibunching and other advanced techniques where demonstrated.

Speakers

  • Xiaohong Fang (Institute of Chemistry, CAS, Beijing)
  • Hongzhen Lin (Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics (SINANO), Chinese Academy of Sciences)
  • Andong Xia (Institute of Chemistry, CAS, Beijing)
  • Xin Sheng Zhao (Department of Chemical Biology, Peking University, Beijing)
  • Volker Buschmann (PicoQuant GmbH, Germany)
