PicoQuant to present new fully automated spectrometer at Photonics West in San Francisco

The fluorescence lifetime spectrometer with steady-state option makes picosecond timing easy

PicoQuant GmbH, specialist in the field of Single Photon Counting Applications, will introduce three new products at SPIE Photonics West from January 22 to 27, 2011 in San Francisco, California:  the new fully automated fluorescence lifetime and steady-state spectrometer FluoTime 300, a new yellow picosecond pulsed laser with variable repetition rate and the „τ-SPAD“, a new single photon counting module for timing applications.

The fluorescence lifetime spectrometer FluoTime 300 is based on the method of Time-Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) and allows to resolve decay times down to a few picoseconds. Multiple detector options enable a large range of system configurations and different spectral sensitivities from the ultraviolett to the near-infrared. A unique characteristic of this system is the very intuitive software „EasyTau“. It includes special application targeted wizards that guide also inexperienced users through all necessary steps for performing time-resolved as well as steady-state measurements.

With the single photon counting module „τ-SPAD“ PicoQuant will showcase an ideal detector for applications like Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS) and Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM). The detector achieves an extremely high photon detection efficiency of 75 percent at 670 nm and is suitabe for photon counting between 400 nm and 1000 nm. The „τ-SPAD“ is the result of a partnership between Laser Components GmbH and PicoQuant GmbH, where Laser Components manufactures the highly sensitive avalanche photodiodes (APDs) and PicoQuant supplies the specifically developed quenching electronics.

PicoQuants new pulsed yellow laser is the first laser with a wavelength of 596 nm that generates  short pulses below 120 ps even at variable repetition rates up 40 MHz. The short pulse width ensures a very high time resolution and researchers benefit from precise measurements.

PicoQuants new products and further time-resolved electro-optical instrumentation from the product portfolio will be on display at the BiOS exhibition, part of the SPIE Photonics West, on January 22 to 23, 2011 at booth 8906 (south hall), and during the SPIE Photonics West exhibition on January 25 to 27 at booths 4829 (north hall) and 2523 (south hall). Furthermore, PicoQuant will present new exciting scientific developments during the BiOS and LASE conferences with the following papers: Confocal microscopy (paper 7905-3), Buffer-controlled photoswitching microscopy (paper 7905-35), New methods for FLIM and FCS (paper 7903-76), Amplification of ps-pulses from freely triggerable gain-switched laser diodes (paper 7917-6) and High-sensitivity and high-troughput spectral FLIM (paper 7903-106).
