9th Short Course on Time-resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy

The course by PicoQuant and the CFS gives an in-depth introduction into time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy

The "Short Course on Principles and Applications of Time-resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy" organised by PicoQuant GmbH is intended for individuals wishing an in-depth introduction to the principles of fluorescence spectroscopy and its applications to the Life Sciences. It will be held from October 31 to November 3, 2011 in Berlin, Germany, in cooperation with Joseph R. Lakowicz from the Center of Fluorescence Spectroscopy (CFS) in Baltimore, USA. Registration deadline is September 15, 2011.

Besides lectures, the course will offer instrumentation and software hands-on trainings. The lectures will be held by Joseph R. Lakowicz from CFS, Zygmunt “Karol” Gryczynski from the Texas Christian University, Forth Worth, USA, Rainer Erdmann, Managing Director of PicoQuant and the staff of PicoQuant, who all have extensive experience in time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. For the hands-on experimentation, market-leading companies will provide various instruments including fluorescence lifetime spectrometers and steady-state spectrometers.

Topics covered:

  • Basics of fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Instrumentation and data analysis
  • Time- and frequency-domain measurements
  • Anisotropy
  • Solvent effects
  • Quenching
  • Foerster Energy Transfer FRET
  • Fluorescence sensing
  • Fluorescence in biophysics
  • Plasmon controlled fluorescence
  • Material science
