Summary

For the 13th time now, PicoQuant invited the top researchers working in the field of Single Molecule Spectroscopy to the annual International Workshop on "Single Molecule Spectroscopy and Ultrasensitive Analysis in the Life Sciences" held in Berlin, September 19-21, 2007.

This year's workshop was again a great event with 89 researchers participating and enjoying 38 talks and 30 posters. Participants did come from all over the world including Australia. A special welcome was given to Dr. Michael Börsch from the University of Stuttgart, who took part for the 10th time now!

Student award

Student award winner at the single molecule workshop 2007PicoQuant especially wants to encourage young scientists. As in the previous years a special prize of 750 Euro for the "Best Student Talk" was awarded by PicoQuant GmbH. Again this year it proved extremely difficult for the jury to nominate the winner, since there were so many good contributions. In the end the price was split between Susane Rocha (Katholic University Leuven) who gave a talk on "Hopping and Scooting: Watching Single Molecule Enzymes at Work" and Yoshihiko Katayama (LMU München) who gave a talk on "A three-dimensional Orbital Tracking Microscope with Simultaneous Wide-Field Capabilities"
