21.09.2009 The International Workshop on "Single Molecule Spectroscopy and Ultra Sensitive Analysis in the Life Sciences" organized by PicoQuant GmbH celebrated its 15th anniversary this year. Overall, the 15th workshop was an outstanding event with more than 170 participants from all over the world. It was celebrated by opening one afternoon session to the public. This "open afternoon", which attracted more than 40 additional listeners from the local campus, included as a highlight a plenary talk given by the 2009 Otto-Hahn-Preis winner Stefan W. Hell (MPI Göttingen, Germany) about "Far-field optical nanoscopy". The participants enjoyed additional plenary lectures, given by Toshio Yanagida (University of Osaka, Japan) and W.E. Moerner (University of Stanford, USA) as well as 44 highly up-to-date talks. Latest results where discussed during two poster sessions with more than 70 Posters.

25.08.2009 A new software version for the HydraHarp 400 has been released. The new software version 1.2 supports devices with up to 8 input channels and features an improved online ("real-time") - correlator for FCS experiments in the T2 mode. The software now also includes an indicator for critical measurement conditions such as pile-up or incorrect divider settings and already supports Windows 7.

17.07.2009 A special multichip laser module for the PDL 828 "Sepia II" has been released. The SML 828 synchronizes and combines the emission from four individual laser diodes into a common multimode fibre. In that way picosecond pulses are generated at a much higher power than available from a standard laser head.
14.07.2009 The Multichannel Picosecond Event Timer & TCSPC Module HydraHarp 400 is now available with up to 8 channels with multi-stop capability and a Time-Tagged Time-Resolved mode with an unlimited measurement range at full resolution.

26.05.2009 A new green (531 ± 3 nm) picosecond pulsed diode laser head is now available. The LDH-P-FA-530 can work at any repetition rate between 10 kHz and 40 MHz and offers pulse widths <100 ps. It emits from a FC/APC fibre connector and reaches 1 mW average output power at 40 MHz repetition rate. It can be controlled by the PDL 828 'Sepia II', the PDL 800-D and the PDL 800-B.
04.05.2009 A new software version for the PicoHarp 300 has been released. The new software version 2.3 features an improved online ("real-time") - correlator for FCS that now also supports the T2 mode. The maximum measurement time in histogrammer mode has been extended to 100 hours and the software now includes an indicator for critical measurement conditions such as pile-up or incorrect divider settings.
17.03.2009 FluoFit V4.4 is now available and includes an improved graphical export and is fully compatible to Windows Vista.
09.03.2009 The PLS 255 is now available, emitting around 255 nm with up to 1 µW average power at 10 MHz repetition rate.
23.02.2009 The 1st European Short Course on "Time-Resolved Microscopy and Correlation Spectroscopy" was held in Berlin, Adlershof from February 17 - 19, 2009. This course was considered by all participants as a great and inspiring event. Altogether more than 40 people from universities and industrie from 15 different countries participated. They attended 6 lectures and 6 hands-on experiment sessions with 4 different instruments from 3 companies, covering different methods and procedures in (time-resolved) fluorescence microscopy such as FLIM, FLIM-FRET, FCS (auto- and cross correlation), FLCS, single molecule spectroscopy and data analysis. Due to the big success, a second course is planned for early 2010.
10.02.2009 A new software version for the TimeHarp 200 has been released. The new version 6.1 provides several new features, notably a new real-time correlator for Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS), calculating autocorrelations and crosscorrelation simultaneously. It also supports control for further monochromator models, permitting the automated recording of Time-Resolved Emission Spectra (TRES). The new version also provides new device drivers for the latest 64 bit versions of Windows Vista.

24.01.2009 PicoQuant and the Center for Biophotonics at UC Davis (CBST) have successfully hosted a joint hands-on workshop on "Making Single Molecule Fluorescence (Lifetime) Measurements Simple" for the fourth time. The workshop was held on January 22-23, 2009 at the premises of the CBST and was a big success. Nearly 40 people attended the course and enjoyed lectures and hands-on experiments.
20.01.2009 A new SymPhoTime version (V 5.0) is now available and includes several new features such as an online-TCSPC histogramming during data acquisition and the possibility to reconstruct an instrument response function (IRF) from a measured decay curve. The new version also fully supports the HydraHarp 400 for data acquisition and analysis.

SymPhoTime V. 4.7 includes the first official release of a completely new developed scripting language that allow users to implement analysis techniques which are not part of the standard SymPhoTime environment. Further important improvements among others are the extension of the visalization functions during the measurements ("online-FCS") and an increase of the correlation speed for FCS and FLCS.
01.04.2008 PicoQuant has released the HydraHarp 400 - a Multichannel Picosecond Event Timer & TCSPC Module. This outstanding and unique system features a time resolution down to 1 picosecond, up to 4 independent but synchronized input channels with multi-stop capability and a Time-Tagged Time-Resolved mode with an unlimited measurement range at full resolution. The system is first presented at the Analytica 2008 show in Munich.

The new designed uses optical fibres for the laser coupling as well as the connection of the photon counting detectors. 10.07.2007A joint workshop between PicoQuant GmbH and the Center for Commercialization of Fluorescence Technologies at the University of North Texas Health Science Center will be held on August 30th. The workshop will deal with "Advanced Time-Domain Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Microscopy (FLIM, FRET, FCS & SMD)" and includes lectures as well as product demonstrations.

20.01.2007The 4-channel universal detector router PHR 800 for the PicoHarp 300 (from hardware revision 2.0) is now available. The detector supports almost any detector signal including of course SPADs, PMTs and MCP-PMTs.

03.11.2005PicoQuant GmbH introduces the PDL 828 - "Sepia II", the next generation of the famous PDL 808 "Sepia" multichannel picosecond diode laser. This new laser driver is completely computer controlled and can control up to eight individual laser heads in one rack providing maximum flexibility for simultaneous, interleaved and burst excitation even at multiple wavelengths. Laser wavelengths between 375 and 1550 nm are available.

Micro-Photon-Devices (MPD) of Bolzano, Italy has named PicoQuant of Berlin, Germany to be the sole European distributor of the PDM series single photon sensitive avalanche photodiodes (SPAD) developed and manufactured by MPD. This strategic partnership combines the leading scientific results in the field of SPADs by Prof. Sergio Cova and MPD with the outstanding system integration expertise in the field of Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM) and Single Molecule Spectroscopy (SMS) of PicoQuant and will allow to develop even better systems in future.

An extensive evaluation study at PicoQuant has shown that the new PDM modules are very well suited for single photon counting applications including Single Molecule Spectroscopy. The modules show a timing response similar to multi-channel plate photomultiplier tubes, a high quantum efficiency in the visible range and an excellent timing stability even at extreme high count rates, which is of crucial importance for Single Molecule Spectroscopy and FLIM. Both companies will closely cooperate and offer solutions for applications such as time-resolved confocal microscopy, fluorescence lifetime measurements and fast timing applications, such as laser pulse characterisation.

11.07.2005The new UV pulsed LEDs are now available in a power optimized version. These versions are limited to a maximum repetition rate of 10 MHz, but allow a higher peak power.
30.05.2005The Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging and Correlation Software SW-MT is now available in a new version. The new version 4.0 offers extended FLIM capabilities, additional ASCII export possibilities as well as an improved LSM support.
18.05.2005A new software version for the NanoHarp 250 has been released. The new software version offers a programmable trigger output and a new base resolution of 32 ns. Up to 262144 time bins are available, which results in a usable measurement time span of up to 2.15 s.
27.04.2005The range of available pulsed LEDs has further been extended. PicoQuant does now also offer a PLS at 295 nm - a wavelength that is traditionally used to excite the natural fluorescenct aminoacid tryptophan.

15.02.2005A new version of FluoFit has been released. The version 4.0 features a new user interface, improved fitting algorithms, additional fitting functions and a new error analysis model. The software is now offered in two versions: FluoFit Basic and FluoFit Professional.
13.12.2004PicoQuant introduces the LSM Upgrade Kit to add temporal resolution to laser scanning microscopes. This upgrade gives the opportunity to perform e.g. Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM) or Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS).
12.11.2004The PLS 280 and the PLS 340 are now available. The new pulsed LEDs are ideal for exciting natural fluorescent molecules like tyrosin, tryptophan and NATA. Furthermore these light sources could replace bulky laser systems like nitrogen lasers, excimer lasers or inefficient flash lamps.

Due to the success of this event a 3rd Course is planned for 2005.
25.10.2004PicoQuant launches the PicoHarp 300 Stand Alone TCSPC Module with USB 2.0 Interface. This photon counting device features a time bin resolution down to 4 ps, two identical, independent input channels with multi-stop capability and a Time-Tagged Time-Resolved mode with an unlimited measurement range at full resolution. In combination with an MCP-PMT overall instrument response functions down to 40 ps can be achieved.
27.09.2004 For the 10th time PicoQuant has invited the top researches working in the field of Single Molecule Spectroscopy to come together in Berlin for the International Workshop on "Single Molecule Detection and Ultrasensitive Analysis in the Life Sciences". This anniversary workshop was outstanding with 106 attendees, 37 exciting talks and 37 posters. The 11th workshop will be held on September 21-23, 2005 in Berlin. 29.09.2003Once more in a successful series of events PicoQuant invited the top researchers working in the field of Single Molecule Spectroscopy to the 9th International Workshop on "Single Molecule Detection and Ultrasensitive Analysis in the Life Sciences" held at PicoQuant in Berlin. The workshop was one of the best in its 9 year history and 75 attendees enjoyed 27 excellent talks and 15 posters.
29.09.2003The first direct SHG of a 1063 nm diode from PicoQuant was shown as a concept study.
10.07.2003Newly released software and New Developer's Library version 5.2 for TimeHarp 200 is now available. The new version 5.2 supports monochromator control and permits the automated recording of Time-Resolved Emission Spectra (TRES). The new version also supports the latest TimeHarp hardware and accessories from PicoQuant, notably the new NRT 400 router for PMT. External markers for synchronization with other processes in TTTR mode can now be recorded with selectable polarity. This provides synchronization with virtually all existing imaging devices including laser scanning microscopes (LSM). Owners of previous versions receive a free update.
26.06.2003"Laser 2003" exhibition: 1st prototype of the PicoTA-110 laser system was introduced. It is an amplified picosecond diode laser system, developed in cooperation with Toptica Ltd. In addition a concept study for a new high power picosecond fibre coupled diode laser (upto 50 mW from a 400 µm fibre) was shown.

23.01.2003Newly released software version 5.0 for TimeHarp 200 is now available. The new version 5.0 supports Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM) with the SCX 200 scan controller as well as recording of external markers for synchronization with other instruments such as scanning microscopes. 01.08.2002New release of the detector module PMA series. The detector is a single photon sensitive, fast time response and low-noise photon sensor from PicoQuant. It consists of a fast photon counting photomultiplier, a high voltage power supply and a pre-amplifier module all in a gold plated iron housing. The module combines the outstanding features of Hamamatsu PMT's, the performance of a built in equivalent of the PAM 102 preamplifier with a superior RF and magnetic shielding.

Furthermore it supports TTTR mode at sustained count rates as high as 2 MCounts/sec. The library supports custom program development with C/C++, Delphi, LabVIEW and Visual Basic. Demo code for all languages is provided.

Dr. Felix Koberling has joined PicoQuant from the Single Molecule Group of Prof. Dr. Basché, University of Mainz. He started as senior scientist to strengthen the single molecule team of the Fluorescence Systems Division.

Following the successful short courses on "Principles and Applications of Time-Resolved Fluorescence" by Dr. J.R. Lakowicz at the Center of Fluorescence Spectroscopy (CFS) in Baltimore a European course will be offered in October 2003 in Berlin, Germany. The course consists of lectures as well as instrumentation and software hands-on training. Local organization is handled by PicoQuant and the key lectures are given by Prof. J. Lakowicz and other invited speakers. Information about the new European course will be available here soon. The new event will complement our own workshops on Single Molecule Detection.

PicoQuant introduces the new multichannel picosecond diode laser driver PDL 808 "Sepia", a modular driver to work with up to 8 picosecond diode laser heads or LEDs. It produces light pulses from single shot to 40 MHz in various operation modes such as synchronous, delayed or sequential. Applications are in lidar, optical tomography and multispectral time-resolved fluorescence work.

PicoQuant introduces the world's first True Blue Picosecond Diode Laser at 440 nm, 40MHz repetition rate and >100mW peak power. The device meets the urgent demand for affordable and compact blue excitation sources in the life sciences. The new development makes PicoQuant's set of interchangeable picosecond light sources running on one driver box the most complete available today.
