3rd International Workshop on "Single Molecule Detection: Basics and Applications in Life Sciences", September 1997
For the third time in a successful series of events we invited all researchers and manufacturers working in the field of Single Molecule Detection with Laser Induced Fluorescence to the 3rd International Workshop on "Single Molecule Detection: Basics and Applications in Life Sciences" 24-27 September 1997 at PicoQuanT in Berlin Adlershof.
Retrospective
Detection and spectroscopy of single molecules has gained considerable interest in the life sciences over the recent years. With over 80 participants from all over the world the 3rd workshop on SMD was a great success. Groups including the world leaders in SMD presented their work in 25 talks and 12 posters. The list of speakers included top scientist such as the pioneers of SMD, Richard Keller (Los Alamos) and Rudolf Rigler (Stockholm). With the event we hope to have encouraged the exchange of knowledge between the experts in SMD, interested scientists from other fields and potential users from industry. Prompted by the participants positive response we held the 4th workshop in September 1998.

Publication
All contributions to the Workshop are considered for publication (peer reviewed) in a special issue of the journal Bioimaging (IOP, edited by Prof. T. Jovin, MPI Göttingen). The downloadable workshop program (see the section Digest above) contains an abstract digest.
